Light Motion Sound: 2012 is photographic in nature and traditional in genre. There are self-portraits, figures, landscapes and still lives. Three elements–light, motion and sound–are combined in as many different ways to express the medium of photography as there are photographers. These works are also very contemporary, and represent some of the most current videos, phone art, projections, new media, mixed media, installations, sculpture and large-scale photographs in Maine. Recurring themes are conservation, the self, time, and gender, and the very process of making a work of art. The context of the exhibition is a collaboration of the Maine Museum of Photographic Arts and The Ogunquit Museum of American Art.

"It is well known that from its beginning, photography was and remains a medium that advances as science's sibling. Simultaneously, photography has underpinned modern art, adding volumes to that language. Recently, a new set of tools has been added to the photographic medium, expanding the possibilities for creative experimentation. These new tools do not in themselves add anything of value to the language of art–artists do that–but now there are more letters in the alphabet."
